Runnin’ for Rhett

Runnin’ for Rhett is here again and practices will be held from 3:00-3:45 pm on the track and will begin on Tuesday, February 25th and conclude on Thursday, March 26th. There will be no training on Thursday, March 5th because it’s a track change day.

**Participants in the program must be available to attend the RUN BECAUSE YOU CAN 5K on Sunday, March 29, 2020 at Sacramento City College.

You can register your child here and be sure to scroll down the page to complete the application: https://www.runninforrhett.org/youth-fitness-program/youth-fitness-program-permission-slip/  If you would like to run with your child on race day, use code “S20YFP” for a discount.

2020 SL Track & Field

Your children are able to participate in the 2020 Robert Trigg Invitational Track & Field Meet on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at Cosumnes Oaks High School in Elk Grove.  The track meet will take place on Saturday, April 25th from 8:00 am – approx. 3:30 pm.  I do not know the exact times of the events or when your children will be competing because it depends upon how many students are competing and how long the events take once the meet begins.  You must stay at the event with your child. We do not have the capabilities to monitor your child for the day.    Practices will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45-4:00 pm and will begin on Tuesday, March 31st with the last practice being held on Thursday, April 23rd.  If your family can commit to the meet on Saturday, April 25th and your child can attend at least 6 practices, I will give them the paperwork to bring home that needs to be completed.

Friendship Party 2/14

Our “Friendship Party” will take place on Friday, 2/14 in the afternoon. We have some students bringing in cookies, mini bundt cakes, brownies, and strawberry/banana skewers.  If your child would like to bring in any of the following options, they may do so…strawberries, raspberries, apple slices, bananas, red bell peppers (with white ranch sauce), red jello squares, pink jello squares, strawberry yogurt, vanilla yogurt, vanilla pudding, etc.  Please note that sharing treats and/or friendship grams is optional.

Free National Parks Pass

Good evening!

Sorry for all the emails this afternoon…this will be my last one!  Also included in your child’s Friday Folder will be a FREE pass to all federal parks, lands, and waters.  Yes, a free pass!!!

Here are the official rules:
1) the pass is for U.S. 4th grade students
2) the pass is for the 2019-2020 school year and expires 8/31/20
3) students can’t transfer the pass to anyone else
4) they can’t accept electronic versions of the paper for access or to exchange for a pass
5) no refunds are given for previously purchased passes, or if you forget your pass when you visit
6) if you lose your pass, get a new one by visiting the website and signing up again
7) educators can get one paper pass for each student
8) this program only provides passes for 4th graders

How it works:

1) show your pass to a ranger when you enter.  If there is no ranger, leave it on the dashboard of your car
2) if you visit a site that charges entrance fees per person, the pass admits all children under 16 and up to three adults for free
3) if your group visits a site that charges vehicle entrance fees, the pass admits all children under 16 and all adults in up to one passenger vehicle. Commercial vehicles can’t use a pass to get in
4) if you arrive at a site on bicycle, the pass admits all children under 16 and up to three adults on bicycles
5) the pass doesn’t cover things like parking fees, camping, boats, and special tours. Also, some sites are managed by private operators. They may not honor the pass. Check with the site ahead of time to find out.
6) the pass doesn’t cover fees for local, city, or state parks and recreation areas unless they say that they accept this pass
7) paper passes can be exchanged for plastic passes at certain sites

If there are any other questions, you can visit the website.  https://everykidoutdoors.gov/educators.htm

Discover CA project

If you and your child have decided on a historical landmark and would like to request that site, please send me an email.  There can be no duplicate locations.  First come, first served.  I will keep a running list, so check either emails or the classroom blog for daily updates.
