Unity Carnival

Hi All,

The unity Carnival is coming and we are teaming up with Mrs. Duffek’s class to put together a beach themed basket for raffle.  So, one of her student’s parent graciously set up an on-line sign up with suggestions.  We are not restricted to only these items, so if you have a clever idea that you prefer with a beach theme, go for it.  The online set up is as follows:

Items may be brought in at any time.  The only restriction is that it can’t have alcohol or any other substance that is not allowed on school campuses.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Jolene Jones

Welcome Back!

Welcome back- I hope everyone had a wonderful off track time.  We will meet Monday, March 6 on dot 54.  Our new room number is C-1.

I look forward to seeing your smiling faces tomorrow morning!

Progress reports

Progress reports are in the Wednesday folder. Please review and sign.  I have included Accelerated Reader information.  Our trimester ends the middle of January- so it seems odd to say, but only a few more weeks to earn points for this trimester’s goal.

Speech!

Your student has a speech to give in class.  It is the conclusion to our work on endangered species.  Tonight the homework consists of developing an introduction and the first point of information.  I have sent home two graphic organizers with explanation for both.  Your student may choose whichever is the easiest.  Speeches are not to be written out in sentence form, but rather outlined.  The students will have their input charts to reference, so talking points should be all that are needed.  We will practice the introductions Tuesday in class and talk about length- one minute.  Most thought it would be short and easy.  A minute is actually a long time 🙂 Please practice looking at the audience and speaking in a loud, clear voice.   Please help your child get started.  Speech schedule is a follows:  Wed.  Prabhleen, Tyler, Oakley, Azzy, Izzy, and Jonah  Thursday: Jude, Jasmine, Alijah, Madelyn, and Conley   Friday: Paisley, Nathan, Stanley, Parik, Kalissa, and Katie     Monday: Alberto, Vivian, Adrian, Mailey, and Niko

The class looks forward to hearing about all of these animals.

Welcome Back!

We are settling in to our new home in C-3.

Thank you to all who worked on memorizing multiplication facts over the break.  We are now focused on division concepts and will continue to take multiplication, 80 problem quizzes, multiple times a week.

In science and reading, our topic is endangered species and our changing environment. For spelling purposes we are on Unit 2 Week 4.  The spelling test will be next Thursday, Nov. 3.  Vocabulary for the week will be introduced today and tested next Thursday.

As we transition back into homework, our daily schedule, and the fall time change,  please encourage your child to go to bed earlier and organize homework and backpacks in the evening.  The number of “tired” children on Thursday was well over half the class.  A   few did not have homework folders or agendas.  Please help your child refocus 🙂

Thank you for all your kind words and well wishes.  Our son’s wedding was a wonderful family affair and we are thrilled to welcome our new daughter -in -law to the family. We now have all branches of the military represented 🙂

Hermit Crabs- Sitters Needed

The class is looking for a home for 4 hermit crabs for the off track time.  Your student will be asking you to sign a piece of paper stating that your child is interested in crab sitting and that you are willing to pick them up on Friday.  These creatures are the easy to care for and really take less than 5 minutes a day to water and feed:)  The sand will be clean and should not need cleaning during the time off.

All students interested, who bring in the necessary note, will be put into a drawing on Thursday.  A drawing will be held before we go home on Thursday.

Thank you!

Assemblies and an Invitation

Tracking off, moving rooms, and receiving report cards makes for a high energy week.  The number of invitations is mind boggling this week!   Here’s our schedule for the week:

Thursday   8:40  Academic Awards   As and Bs  Notice was sent home yesterday in homework folder.  If your child’s name was handwritten on the notice, then he/she is receiving an award.

9:10- 9: 30  Mini Open House.  We are moving rooms to C3 upon our return, so everything has to come off the walls and out of the cabinets.  The students wanted to show their work prior to dismantling the room.  We hope a few parents can drop by after the assembly to share in our excitement and accomplishments.

Friday  9:10  Character Awards   Those invitations went home yesterday also.  Three students will receive awards.

Dismissal is 12:45 from the blacktop on Friday.  Report cards will be in the homework folders along with any final graded work.

I hope everyone has a restful three weeks.   Please be safe and enjoy your family time.!

We track on- Wednesday,  October 26.  C-3 Dot 52 🙂

Updates

Time this week  vaporized from our weekly schedule -holiday on Monday, lengthy assembly on Wednesday, and a minimum day today.  With this in mind, our forest quiz in science occurred yesterday as planned; however, the social studies test on Chapter 9 will not take place today.  I have rescheduled it for next Tuesday.  Please look for a study guide on Monday.  We will have the material reviewed today.

Please begin working on memorizing multiplication facts.  Using flashcards is the easiest way to begin the process.  We are finding 0,1,2,4 the easiest.  To meet the third grade standard, students should be able to complete a three minute timed test on facts through 9 x  9.  All the strategies we have been working on are really ways for those who haven’t memorized the facts to work out the problems.  The more memorizing your child does, the less work he/she ends up doing on homework and classwork.  This should be a goal during off track time as well.  We begin division upon our return in October.

Updated Progress Report

In your student’s Wednesday folder, you will find an updated progress report.  Please sign and return tomorrow.   Grades close next Friday for the first trimester.  If your student needs AR points, please have him/her read to finish the library book sent home on Tuesday.  AR tests can be taken daily on the classroom computer or on Tuesday during library.  We have a few assignments not completed, so those grades will still need to be entered.

We will have a social studies test on Friday of this week- chapter 9.

Tomorrow we have a quiz on the forest and a chapter 1 test next Thursday covering biomes.   Please encourage your child to study by asking questions, defining words, and focusing on animal and plant adaptations – both behavioral and structural.

We have been sick these past two weeks,  everything from stomach bugs to various levels of congestion.  I have washed desks multiple times and am requiring tissue use for nose issues and hand sanitizer if hands, fingers, or any other objects go in mouths or noses.  Please help by reviewing appropriate hand washing procedures and use of tissues in public areas- like a classroom.  Thank you for your help 🙂
