GLAD lessons

I had the opportunity to visit Ms. Lopez’s classroom this week.  She was working on a GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Development) lesson with her first graders.  They were being asked to write about owls.

Mrs. Lopez had pictures posted around the classroom which served as resources for her students during their writing. She also began the lesson with an art project to help her students get excited about their owl lesson.

After teaching her students about owls, she asked them to write down three facts about owls. She gave her students a language frame and a clipboard to help her students start their writing.

I really enjoyed spending the morning in Mrs. Lopez’s class.  I can’t wait to see her students’ final drafts. I wish I had taken more pictures.
