New School Construction

On May 14th, EGUSD began construction on a long-awaited new home for Franklin Elementary School. The new eight-building campus will open in summer 2020 and will be located at the intersection of Gilliam Drive and Dorcey Drive in the southeastern portion of Elk Grove’s East Franklin neighborhood.

The existing Franklin Elementary School was built in the rural town of Franklin in 1955. It was last modernized in 1994 and needed an estimated $13 million in critical upgrades and current modernization to remain in viable condition. Projected student enrollment would have exceeded the school’s capacity by 2025.

For these reasons, the new campus – just 0.8 miles to the east — will be better able to meet the needs of students and increasing enrollment. The new school will feature classrooms that facilitate more collaborative teaching practices, several outdoor learning spaces, and increased natural lighting. It features an improved area for student drop-off and pick-up as well as being located within easy walking and biking distance.

This Project is funded by developer fees, Mello-Roos taxes, statewide school construction bonds and Measure M.
