A large portion of our front driveway was appropriately rezoned last week to a yellow zone. Many of our families have traditionally dropped off and picked up students in the front driveway of our school. However, that front driveway has always been marked as a red zone. While to the letter of the law, stopping in a red zone is illegal; however, stopping in that red zone in our front driveway was the safest way to drop off and pick up students. National Safe Routes to School specifically states that releasing and picking up students directly to and on the sidewalk is the safest way to move students at a school.
I have worked with EGPD since arriving at Stone Lake to help keep the area on and around Stone Lake as safe as possible. I am appreciative of the support from Sergeant Schnepple, and he has pledged his support to me in regards to traffic issues at Stone Lake and the surrounding neighborhood.
