Star Base.. Day 2

Today we had an AMAZING day at Star Base. First, when we entered the classroom we learned about nano technology. Eventually, we did an experiment with two different sand types. One was normal sand, the other was Aqua sand. The amazing thing about Aqua sand is that it doesn’t get wet! When it is placed in to water, air bubbles form around it protecting it from the water.

Then the next thing we did was we compared the textures of different pieces of fabric. We checked if they were hydrophobic or hydrophilic. A was hydrophilic and B was hydrophobic.

Next, Ms. Ogawa gave everyone a ship and she had us choose materials to strap an egg down to it. The materials were a rubber band, band aid, string, and a sponge. They sent everyone’s ship down and my group was not successful. The ship hit the wall and Commander Egg-man came flying out.

We then had lunch and recess.

After that we went to Mr. Pace’s room. We learned about robots and that all robots have a body, behavior, and control. We then coded a Lego robot that connected to an app. We can drag the instructions on the program and then link it to the robot. That allows the robot to do a certain action. That was the conclusion of my day at Star Base.

StarBase Fieldtrip

WE HAVE A FIELD TRIP FOR THE WHOLE WEEK! This week we are going to Starbase Sacramento. It is a program in Sacramento that teaches science to children. Our teachers names are Ms. Ogawa and Mr. Pace. The bus rides were AWESOME to and from, the bus driver played many songs. Some of the songs made the whole bus super loud because we were all singing. I think that learning science all week can get repetitive, but it is important to learn. I want to learn about robotics and machines. I wonder what else we are going to learn about.

The change..

“Mom, what did you do?!” said Lio. This what you could hear if your parent or caregiver had dyed green hair, nose rings, and a tattoo running down her arm. How would you react if this happened to you? I’ll tell you how I would.

I would have three phases of emotion, first is surprise and shock. Second is thinking it might be cool. Then a wave of embarrassment might hit me, I would think of getting looks everywhere we go and people thinking it’s weird. Then, I would remember they are my caregiver and like it or not I will have to get used to it.

Which teacher would I choose?

What is strict and teaches you? Did you get it? It was a strict teacher. If you had to choose between a strict teacher that actually teaches, and a fun teacher that doesn’t teach. What would you choose? I would choose the strict teacher because if I didn’t learn anything then in the next grade I would not be prepared.

The truth…

If my friends were completely honest with me and could tell me what was good and what was bad. Would I want to know? I think that I would have them tell me them.

However these do have some cons. Maybe an answer can ruin a friendship. They could also start a rumor.

Parents should be punished…

I believe that parents should be punished for mean behaviors. If my parents were late to taking me to the movies or something more serious I would need a way to get them back. But how, and would they work? I’m not sure, but here is what I have so far.

First, I need to explain a little bit, my mom’s wires for her computer  run off of a light switch. On keeps it running, off makes it so the computer does not turn on. Therefore, when it is night time, I would sneak into her office and turn off the switch.

I also have another idea.

My dad has a phone for work and a tablet for work. His phone is so much more important than his tablet. So what I would do is charge his tablet and not his phone.
