Journey to the River Sea – Eva Ibbotson

Journey to the River Sea by Eva Ibbotson is about a girl named Mia who has to move from England to Brazil. Mia has to live with Mr.Carter, her Uncle, who collects glass eyes, Mrs.Carter, her aunt, who is obsessed with cleanliness, and her two twin cousins Beatrice & Gwendolyn who are arrogant. On her trip to Brazil Mia met Miss Minton, the Carters’ new governess. She also met a young actor named Clovis and promised to see his show in Manaus, the town nearest to where the Carters live. Mia became good friends with Miss Minton and Miss Minton becomes good friends with her. The Carters have Indians as servants and Mia becomes good friends with them. One day Mia meets an Indian/English boy named Finn and becomes great friends with him. Two men from England come looking for Finn to take him to England to inherit Westwood because his father and uncle had died and only boys can inherit Westwood. Finn doesn’t want to inherit Westwood and tries to escape to the Xanti Indians. I think that this story girls would like better. If I rated it 1-10 I’d give it a 9.
