Anne of Green Gables- L.M. Montgomery

Anne of Green Gables is about a 12 year old orphan girl named Anne Shirley who is taken in by two siblings, Marilla and Mathew Cuthbert. The Cuthberts were actually going to get a boy to help on their Green Gables farmhouse, but they got Anne instead. Anne wonders if the Cuthberts like her, because she likes the Green Gables, and hopes she can call herself “Anne of Green Gables”. Marilla tries to make Anne become a proper lady, but Anne has a habit of talking so much, and has a HUGE imagination. This book is funny in some chapters and goes from years 12-15 of Anne. I think this book is more appealing to girls than boys because there are many girl characters. There are 11 more books in this series.

  1. Hello Anna Marie,

Three generations of my family have loved Anne Shirley and her adventures – and misadventures – my mother, myself, and my daughter. I don’t know if you have seen the movie series, but it’s one of the few of which I can honestly say I have enjoyed the movie versions almost as much as the books.

I agree with you, though, that Anne of Green Gables is probably a “girl book,” but it still remains one of my favorites. Enjoy the rest of the series:-)
