Hello welcome to Book Club! Here we are reading, Rules. If you have that book you are just right on track.
The book of the author is called Cynthia Lord. She was inspired by her mom’s enthusiasm she gave her. She wanted to be a writer at age 4. Her first song went like this:
“Ding-dong, the cherries sing,
Tra-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Ding-dong, the cherries sing,
Tra-la-la-la-la DING, DING!”
She wasn’t really good at doing poems, but she still kept trying. Maybe you should have her enthusiasm.
Okay, now your task is to read Section 1( Pg 1-40) of Rules and to respond to us if you’d like. If you don’t know how, click on comments, and fill in the things you want to say. Be sure to write your name, too. Why you’re responding is because I am giving you this question: Catherine has to give rules to David. What would you give David as a rule?
So far this book is starting off to be a book about a girl and her autistic brother who has to learn the rules to keep from embarrassing his sister, Catherine. Due to his autism, they have to go to an occupational therapy, that is where she meets Jason, a boy who can not talk and sits in a wheelchair. She loves to draw, but sometimes it gets her in trouble. Now we go back to her normal life, their next door neighbor moved out and sold the house to a girl who is Catherines age. Catherine wants to do so many things with her, just like she did with her other friend, Melissa.
