Violet Raines Almost Got Struck by Lightening By: Danette Haworth

Violet Raines Almost Got Struck by Lightening is a wonderful book. It deals with real- life experiences of any girl who’s ever lived. This book is my favorite book I’ve read, and it even helped me with some of my own problems.

Violet Raines is a spunky eleven year old girl who speaks her mind. She lives right next to her best friend, Charlotte, or Lottie, as everyon calls  her. When a pretty new girl named Melissa Gold from Detroit comes along to Florida and intrudes on Lottie and Violet’s friendship, Violet doesn’t like it one bit. Everyone seems fascinated with her becuase she comes from the “Murder Capitol” or the United States. Melissa is more focused on boys, hot celebrities, going to Hollywood, than getting a Brain Freeze or hanging out at the old hollowed out tree, which quite frankly, Violet would rather do instead of drooling around boys. But Melissa seems to steal Lottie away. Lots of thigns happen, one being Violet almost getting struck by lightening at Lottie’s house, and Lottie’s house getting destroyed because of it. With that, Lottie moves in to Melissa’s house until her house is fixed. Violet is really mad at that.  But the problem is they don’t have the money to fix it. Also, on one day Violet, Lottie, Melissa, and Eddie, Violet’s friend are hanging out, despite the fact that Violet hates Melissa. They start playing truth or dare, and Melissa dares Violet to kiss Eddie. She does, just to prove to Melissa that she can. But Eddie runs away and starts avoiding her. Will Melissa ever become friends with Violet? Will Eddie ever forgive her? Will Lottie ever move back into her house? Find out by reading Violet Raines Almost Got Struck by Lightening by Danette Haworth. I absolutely loved it!!!

  1. I read the book Violet Raines Almost Got Struck by Lightening by Danette Haworth too. Violet Raines is an eleven-year-old girl who says she’s not afraid of anything. She doesn’t worry about hurting anyone’s feelings and says everything that pops into her mind. She has two great friends Lottie and Eddie who would stick up for her at an instant. They all are perfectly content here in Mitchell Hammock, until Melissa arrives from Detroit and messes everything up. Violet thinks she is trying to steal away Lottie from her, but she will not let her. Lottie always talks about how great Melissa is, but Violet doesn’t buy it. She will find out herself what Melissa’s like. Once they are together in Melissa’s room, all Melissa talks about are boys, Hollywood stars, and one day being a celebrity. But Violet would rather get a Brain Freeze with Eddie than be stuck in Melissa’s room all day talking about garbage. Melissa also has a secret crush on Eddie and teases Violet about being his girlfriend. One day Lottie, Melissa, Eddie, and Violet play truth or dare and Melissa dares Violet to kiss Eddie. Because Violet is Violet, she doesn’t want Melissa to see her back down to a dare, so she grabs his shirt and kisses him. Once she is done, she acts like it isn’t a big deal, but Eddie gives her a betrayed glance and makes a run for it. Whenever she sees him, he avoids her and walks the other way. To add to her problems, Lottie’s house gets struck by lightening, so she has to stay with Melissa. Now she has no friends all because of Melissa! Will she regain friendship with Eddie and Lottie? Will she ever become friends with Melissa? Will Lottie move back into her house? Read this book to find out. I loved it because it taught me that even though you are growing up, you don’t have to change who you really are. You don’t have to like boys or wear makeup, you just need to be yourself and people will like you for who you are.
