The Meanest Hound Around – Bill Wallace

This story is about a dog named Freddie. He had a wonderful boy that took good care of him. One day when his boy was gone to school, his dad took Freddie for a ride in the car. The dad opened the door and forced Freddie to get out. Freddie got out and then the dad closed the door and left without Freddie. He did not know what to do. Then he figured out that he got dumped. He now had to live on his own. One day when Freddie was just wandering around, he found a dump. At that dump he saw a little friendly dog and a big mean dog. Freddie approached the little dog and the little dog growled and barked at him, but Freddie was not scared. The little dog did not try to act tough then. Then Freddie started to talk with the little dog. The little dog’s name was Spike and he was a watchdog.  He also got dumped. Freddie asked who the big mean dog was. His name was Tiger. Spikes and Tigers owner was a mean old person named Roy. Roy would always hurt the dogs. One day Freddie thought of an idea, so that Spike could escape. The plan was that they would dig a hole under the fence so Spike could crawl under it. The plan worked perfectly. Now Freddie and Spike had to live on there own. Will Freddie and Spike find a happy place to live or will Roy find them? I think this book will appeal to both boys and girls. This book takes place in the country on a farm, so if you like farms and the country life, you should read this book. I usually like Bill Wallace’s books, but I didn’t like this book as much as the other ones he’s written. This book is short and is only 146 pages long.
