Twelve-Lauren Myracle

The book Twelve, by Lauren Myracle, is about a girl named Winnie and how her life (and her body) changes as she is growing up. In the beginning of the book Winnie is starting 7th grade with some of her friends from elementary school. Some exciting as well as not so good incidents happened in 7th grade. An example of a not so good incident was when Winnie had a substitute teacher and all her friends were being mean to the substitute teacher. They were mean because when the substitute called role none of said their correct names. The bad part was that a popular, snobby girl made Winnie play along too.  After that Winnie felt really bad.  An example of an exciting incident was that later in the school year Winnie and her friend Dinah met a new friend named Cinnamon.  Winnie was not always excited about the ways her body changed in 7th grade.  At the very end of the book Winnie had great friends, family, and a great boyfriend. I thought the author’s main purpose of the book was to tell readers that life can be hard at times and can be fun at times too. My favorite part of the book was when Winnie started 7th grade because it was her first year in middle school and it sounds like middle school can be really fun. I thought it was cool how the chapters of the book were named by months instead of numbers.  I would rate this book a 9 ½ out of 10 because a person’s life can be bumpy at times and exciting at other times. This book is a realistic fiction book. I LOVED this book and hope you LOVE the book too.
