The Illustrated Mum by Jacqueline Wilson

Tattooed from head to toe in one-of-a-kind tattos, Marigold is the mother of 11 year old Dolphin and teen daughter Star. Marigold has “…her brain wired differently..”. She will drink too much, go out clubbing and accidently leave the girls at thier flat for a whole day. She will get horrible migrains and slap her children, but she can’t help it; she’s got problems. Mickey, Star’s long-lost-father wants to take care of Star. So Star rudely abandons Dolphin and Marigold. Marigold got pregnant with Star before she could tell Mickey and Mickey left her. But Mickey is Star’s dad, NOT Dolphin’s. Later Marigold goes completly mad. Dolphin finds her naked painted everywhere on her body with white house paint. Even on her eyes! Dolphin freaks and tries to scrub it off before it causes an infection, but it was no use. So she calls the ambulance. She knows Marigold hates the hospital because the want to “help her” and it would cause pain and lasers.

With help, Dolphin finds HER dad, Micheal. Micheal wants to take care of her, but social workers put her in a foster home.

Will Marigold come out of the hospital? Will Star come back? And will Dolphin get out of the foster home? Read to find out!
