Flying Solo is book about a sixth grade class who discover that their teacher Mr. Fabino is out and their subsitute never shows up. The class has no idea to tell a teacher about their missing sub or to fly solo and run the class themselves. Jessica, the tallest girl in the 6th grade, doesn’t like the idea of flying solo. Rachel White, a girl who has been silent ever since their classmate Tommy Feathers died six months ago, remembers today was the six month anniversary of Tommy’s death so she keeps having flashbacks of Tommy on the day before he died. Everyone knew that he loved Rachel and always gave her small gifts like sea shells and poems. Things get tight as the day passes as teachers stop by and their secret might spill.
