This book is about a girl named Maggie Bean. Maggie’s dad lost his job and spends more time watching television. Maggie’s mom is worried about money. Maggie’s dream is to be on the Water Wings team and she wants Peter Applewood to like her. Soon Maggie has a goal to loose more weight and practice swimming,so she can make the Water Wings. Will she make it on the Water Wing’s team? Will Peter Applewood ever like her? And will her dad ever find a new job? There are many more events and characters in this book, but you will have to read this book to find out. I think girls would like it more than boys.

I read this book, too. I agree with Carly that this book is more for girls than for boys because Maggie deals with her weight, how she looks, and if she will impress Peter Applewood, the best school baseball player. The co-captains of the Water Wings team are Julia Swanson and Anabel Richards. Julia likes Peter, and there is a rumor that Peter likes her back, or does he? Aimee, her best friend, was the one that got Maggie into trying out for the team. Maggie, was embarrassed of the way she looks, and that’s when she started loosing weight. Maggie also was forced to go to a place called Pound Patrollers. At Pound Patrollers, they help people with loosing weight. Maggie goes with her Auntie, Aunt Violetta, because she has weight problems, too. Maggie met Arnie, another Pound Patroller and they become friends. There is a connection between Arnie and Peter, but you have to read this book to find out. If you want to know what happens to Maggie, read The Melting of Maggie Bean. Have fun!
