In a small village in Alaska, Russel Susskit, a 14 year old boy visits the blind old Oogruk in his small house. Russel borrows Oogrukâs dogs and weapons and they both set out for a trip. Oogruk tells Russel to leave him on a piece of ice so old Oogruk can die there. Then Oogruk tells Russel to travel far away to become a man. Russel goes far to the north with the dogs and weapons. On the trip, he dreams that he is a mighty hunter and kills mammoths.
Russel travels and hunts with his bows and arrows. He kills four deer and that were all the food he eats. It is a tough trip because there are snow storms. After traveling for a long time, Russel sees snow machine tracks. He follows the tracks and finds a snow machine without anyone on it. Then he sees footprints of a person. He follows the track to find a woman lying on the ground. What happens to her? Why is she there? What will Russel do? Read Dogsong to find out.
