This book is about a mouse named Despereaux Tilling who is smaller than and has the biggest ears of the Tillings. He falls in love with a princess named Pea and is sent to the Mouse Councel for breaking three of the major rules of the mice. After being foulnd gulity, he is thrown into the dungeon but manages to get out with the help of Gregory the Jailer. Another character is a rat named Chiaroscuro who lives in the dungeon. Chiaroscuro only wants to be outside of the dungeon. However, when he goes outside, he accidently kills the Queen that lives in the castle. He becomes upset and plans to capture the Princess Pea and keep her in the dungeon. The next charater mentioned is Miggery Sow. She was sold to another person by her father, and was not treated fairly. One day Miggery was brought to the castle to be a servant. After many jobs, she was to bring food to the jailer in the castle. Ruscuro meets Miggery and uses her to get the Princess Pea into the dungeon when everyone is sleeping. Despereaux then goes to the dungeon to rescue the princess. I would recommend this book to those who like mice and fantasy stories.
