Martin Luther King Jr.

            MLK impacted civil rights in America. He wanted all people to be treated equally and to not be judged by their skin color. He believed in non-violent protest and protested through boycotts. He is known for his “I Have a Dream” speech.

Mahatma Gandhi     

            Gandhi was known for leading the Indian independence movement from Britain during the 1900’s. He encouraged nonviolent civil disobedience against the unfair taxation and discrimination against poor farmers and laborers. He also tried to stop the violence between Hindu and Muslims in Bengal. Gandhi is known for his non-violent protests and belief in simple living.

Mikhail Gorbachev

Mikhail Gorbachev was the first president of the Soviet Union and helped break up the USSR. He made the Soviet Union more democratic and fair for all citizens, which led to the fall of communism. He won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1990 in his role in negotiation of arms control and disarmament. He brought the Cold War to the end and took down the Berlin Wall.
