Artist Statement

1) I did not necessarily choose to be a part of photo and it was not my first choice when I was going into freshman year. However, I am glad that I have joined this class because it has allowed me to look at photos from so many different kinds of perspectives, and has taught me neat techniques to transform any photo into a work of art. Probably, my favorite thing about photo is that there are no limits to creativity, just as long as you have the skills to incorporate your imagination into a picture. With photography, you can capture so much more than just an object, you can make the object nearly spring to live with the right use of color and effects.

2) List of Feelings: Fun, Simple, Relaxing, Creative, Focused, Patience, Appealing, Imaginative

3) a) My favorite tool is most definitely Photoshop. You can make a picture just so much more impressive with the large amount of effects and tools at your disposal in Photoshop.

b) My favorite material is probably photo developing chemicals, due to how they work with and against one another to create a nice black and white print of your photo.

c) What I like best about photo is that there are literally no limits to one’s creativity

d) When I have a piece that turns out well, it gives me a feeling of success and accomplishment

e) My most apparent pattern for photo is probably originality. I try to be as original as possible, and I do not like taking other photographer’s style as much as taking pictures my own way.

f) I don not necessarily do anything different than what I was taught, I simply just add personal tweaks to personalize my photos.

g) My favorite colors are black, grey, and white, which are all very neutral colors. These colors all represent modesty and remorse.

4) Accomplishment, Originality, Neutral, Unlimited

5) Unlimited – Not limited or restricted in terms of number, quantity, or extent.

Originality – The ability to think independently and creatively.

These two factors seem to have the ability to intertwine with one another.

6) When I with with cameras, I am reminded that I have a very expensive yet great creative tool at my disposal. I begin a piece by simply brainstorming. I know when a piece is done when I feel a strong sense of accomplishment. When my work is going well, I feel a sense of accomplishment. When people see my work, I’d like them to take a second look to capture the details of the picture.

Photo Essay

(This story is based on my cat Gary)

Once upon a time, In the land of Elk Grovia there was a house on the corner of a street, and in this house lived an orange tabby cat named Garith Von Brockenhurst the Third. Garith was abandoned as a kitten and was taken by a royal family, hence Garith grew up in royalty and riches.

Today was an ordinary day for Garith, soaking up the sun, eating drinking and sleeping his day away. He would always sit in his favorite red chair in the living room, usually next to the owners. Occasionally, his brother, Lawrence of Elk Grovia, would pay him a visit. Sometimes, his visits weren’t friendly. Garith commonly had disputes with his brother Lawrence over who is the true royal cat. They fought for food, territory, and much more in an attempt to be the most favorable to the royal owners. But today was a much different day. His brother didn’t not pay him a visit at all. Garith relished this moment and slept all day. Unfortunately, Garith was to find out that today would be the most challenging day of his life.

Calmly perched on his royal green chair, Garith scanned the whereabouts for any possible threats. “It’s awfully quiet,” Garith pondered to himself. Suddenly, Garith heard a feint clicking sound over the horizon. It was unlike anything he had ever heard before. He had absolutely no clue where this eerie clicking noise was coming from. Still perched on his chair, Garith pondered and pondered until his brain was sore, he just couldn’t figure out what it was! Suddenly, on the ground below him, appeared a menacing evil sight that he had never considered before. An evil red dot was hovering below him on the ground. This dot stared into Garith’s very soul, piercing all his emotions, forcing him to only rely on instinct. Garith pupils enlarged in a burning fiery rage as he carefully stalked the evil dot. The dot continued to pester and mock Garith to the brink of insanity. Garith had enough. He quickly leaped out of his royal throne, slouched into an attacking position, and unsheathed his claws, ready to strike down his menacing opponent. Garith went in for the attack, whipping his claws at the evil dot with all his might! Garith missed his powerful strike. He missed and missed again, swing after swing. The dot started to dash away. Garith sprinted after it with burning consistence and confidence. This time Garith jumped in the air, unsheathed his claws, and with both paws, struck the evil red dot with all his brutal might! Then he heard the mysterious clicking noise again, and how it faded off into the horizon. With his paws still on the red dot, Garith slowly opened his paws. The dot had vanished! Garith had successfully destroyed the evil red dot of doom! Garith’s pupils soon returned to normal, his heart rate slowed down, and his adrenaline rush was gone. With pride and high-self esteem, Garith pranced back to his royal red chair, and quickly sat down in it once again. Gary slowly closed his eyes, knowing that he had been a successful cat, and defended all of Elk Grovia from the little red dot. Garith was now peacefully asleep. Little did he know that the little red dot was in fact not evil at all, but just an illusion cast by the owners themselves, with a laser pointer!
