Today, we went to the mobile dairy classroom and we got to see a real live cow and learn about how dairy is processed.  We learned about cattle and the teacher taught us new vocabulary words.  The cow that we met was very friendly, her name is Snickers, and she is three years old.  You may think a three year old cow is small sized, but she is actually really large!  The teacher told us that a cow is an adult once it is only one year old.   Snickers had her very first baby calf when she was two years old.  If they had already had a baby, then they could give milk.  A cow has one large stomach and it has four chambers.  On their side, they have thirteen ribs on each side.  They have to chew their food two times before it digests.  Cows also chew at the back of their mouth using their molars, and they only chew from side to side.  The teacher also taught us the proper way of miking a cow.  It was interesting because I never knew how to do it the right way.  The milk we get at school is fresh from their cattle.  Finally, the vocabulary words that she taught us were about cows and dairy.  She helped me understand more about what they do to our milk that we drink each day and where we get it from.
