Monterey Trail High School Academy / Pathway Programs
Animation Pathway — Students in the Animation Pathway work with high-end technology in a hands-on environment, use industry-standard editing software and have the opportunity to experience how the profession works. Students will receive a high quality education in the animation and digital media fields as well as developing the highly transferable skills of communication, collaboration and problem-solving. The goals of the Animation Pathway are:
- To prepare students to be creative, critical-thinking, productive citizens who articulate ideas in various forms of communication.
- To cultivate a lifelong appreciation of the role the arts play in a culturally diverse society.
- To provide students with project-based curriculum that focuses on a team approach found in many professional work environments.
When students leave this program, they are truly prepared for both college and career. Course instruction is enhanced through mentoring and internships. Articulated post-secondary credits are available.

Broadcasting Pathway — Students work with high-end technology in a hands-on, use industry-standard editing software, and have the opportunity to experience how the video and audio production profession works. Students experience the art and craft of digital media production. Students will receive a high quality education in the digital media fields as well as developing the highly transferable skills of communication, collaboration and problem-solving. When students leave the Video and Audio Productions Pathway they are truly prepared for both college and career. This pathway provides students with the skills necessary to gain employment or to pursue advanced study.

Design and Technology Academy (DATA) — The Design and Technology Academy (DATA) provides a rigorous four-year program designed to give students training, information and resources in the areas of Engineering, Computer Science and Environmental Architecture. Throughout the students’ high school career, DATA teachers focus on three main goals:
- to strengthen students’ motivation and commitment to learning by providing purpose for their learning experiences.
- to improve students’ connection to school through personalized learning environments and workplace experiences.
- to prepare students to enter industry with appropriate certification and/or post-secondary education.
Engineering: Students will engage in various hands-on activities to explore the nature of assorted engineering fields. In addition, the student will learn about technology sectors such as manufacturing, construction, power and energy, communications and transportation. Student teams are formed to develop, design, build and present a functional electromechanical prototype. During fabrication, students will perform various manufacturing processes and learn various technologies and concepts such as manual and CNC machining, CNC plasma cutting, 3-D printing, robotics, welding, electronics, pneumatic and mechanical systems. Students may be eligible to apply to Sacramento State University through the ACE Program for transferable college credit.

Fashion Design and Merchandising Pathway — The Fashion and Interior Design Industry sector is a multi-billion-dollar enterprise offering a wide variety of careers. A particularly high-demand exists for pre-production jobs which may involve computerized pattern-making and product data-management. Self-motivation, confidence as well as creativity are traits that lead to success in this sector.
Students graduate from the academy with:
- in-depth, hands-on experiences that focus on industry awareness.
- sustainable practices, knowledge of the elements and principles of design and the history of fashion.
knowledge of fashion forecasting, textiles and textile products, product knowledge, apparel merchandising.
hands-on experience with garment production.

Sports, Music & Entertainment Marketing Pathway — This is a New and Emerging Sector. The Marketing, Sales and Service sector provides an opportunity to learn the techniques of transferring products or services to consumers. As California businesses compete in the global marketplace, the need for employees with business expertise, and the ability to analyze and respond to emerging trends, especially in the areas of sports, music and entertainment will continue to grow.
