EXPLORE CTE (ROP)
As of the 2015-16 school year, the Sacramento Regional Occupational Program (ROP) is defunct due to changes in the way California funds career technical education (CTE). With the implementation of the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) in 2012-13, the state legislature and governor eliminated most categorically funded educational programs, including ROP. However, the state asked counties and districts for a two-year maintenance of effort to keep ROP programs funded at their 2012-13 level through 2014-15 in order to prevent an abrupt cessation of CTE services.
There continues to be an interest in offering district-wide and out-of-district enrollment for some former ROP courses. This scheduling format benefits EGUSD students, including those at continuation and alternative high schools, by providing an opportunity to take a course or training program not offered at their home campus. Furthermore, by enrolling some non-EGUSD students, the district is able to fill important specialty courses, such as EKG Monitoring Technician, that might otherwise have to be closed due to low enrollment. EGUSD will continue to provide cross-district and out-of-district enrollment in about 20 former ROP courses.
