Every year students from across the district and nearby charter schools take advantage of a great opportunity, the Explore CTE Medical Programs.  Explore CTE Medical offers medical assistant, EKG technician, and phlebotomy technician training through intensive three-hour courses at Valley and Rio Cazadero high schools. Courses culminate in an externship with local medical offices or hospitals and successful students are ready to enter the medical profession upon program completion, usually the summer after graduation. As one parent commented, “I am grateful to all the instructors. I have peace knowing my daughter can work while attending college—thank you!”

Explore CTE Medical students are truly committed, often missing out on sports or other activities in order to complete the after-school coursework. Friday, September 21, the College and Career Connections Department honored many of these dedicated Explore CTE Medical students, now high school graduates, at a completion ceremony, recognizing their accomplishments. College and Career Connections plans to hold two ceremonies every year to ensure all students that complete the program are recognized.

The Explore CTE Medical Programs fall under the general Explore CTE umbrella. In addition to the medical programs, Elk Grove Unified students can travel to other campuses to enroll in culinary, agricultural welding, animation, and other CTE programs not offered at the home school.

The enrollment dates for Spring 2019 are October 12018 through December 31, 2018. The enrollment dates for Fall 2019 are April 1, 2019 through August 152019.
