Not letting a winter storm deter them, Florin High School’s Ag-Tech Academy’s agricultural science program attended the Student and Landowner Education and Watershed Stewardship (SLEWS) Program to plant shrubs and forbes along an irrigation line at a site called River Garden Farms Co in Knights Landing, California. Now in its 17th year, The SLEWS Program engages the community by pairing high schools with restoration projects in which each class is responsible for one project. Students then become invested in their projects and get to see how it improves and benefits the land over time. The SLEWS Program work on restoration and also focuses on connecting agriculture to wildlife. This then teaches students how they can have a direct impact around them and benefit their community, which includes the environment!
