Elk Grove High School’s Sustainable Agriculture and Green Energy Academy students recently returned from the 86th Annual National Future Farmers of America Convention in Louisville, Kentucky with multiple National awards including a National Championship award.
The students practiced over the summer to prepare for the National Contests and competed in Agriscience Fair, Farm Business Management, The National Knowledge Bowl and Agriscience Proficiency.
In the Agriscience competition, Karlye Clement and Taylor Applemun were selected as the National Champions in the Novice Environmental Science division with their project on chicken litters effect on soil nutrient levels. Carly Huss placed third in the Advanced Environmental Science division presenting her project on organic fly control. Emily Melis, Mary Swanberg, Janae Hadden, Brean Hogge, Prentyce Hitt, Amanda Brown and Lexi Stroud each placed 5th, Sarah and Logan Sigmond placed 6th, and Cecilia Infante placed 10th in their respective divisions.
Madison Albiani was a National Proficiency Finalist in the Integrated Agriscience proficiency and also received her American FFA Degree along with Jackie Hardesty. This degree is earned by only 1% of the membership in any given year.
In the National Farm Business Management competition, Emily Melis, Mary Swanberg, Shelby Clifford and Janae Hadden received a silver award. In the National Knowledge Bowl, Taylor Applemun, Caleigh Hale, Sarah Sigmon, Cecilia Infante and Prentice Hitt received a gold award.
