Summary Writing: Iroquois (Audio)

Our assignment was to summarize the lives of the Iroquois people. Summaries should include information about their location, the structures they lived in, the food they consumed, and the forming of the council.

  1.       “The Iroquois” selection of “The Eastern Woodlands” describes how they live.
         First of all, Iroquois had houses that were different from other tribes. The Iroquois people lived East of the Mississippi River. They lived in longhouses and the longhouses had two sections that were divided and each section belonged to one or two families. Longhouses were made from young trees and surrounded by bark.
         Second, they did two things everyday. One of them are, the womens made wampums and it stands out for important stories. The other one is they grew corns, beans, and squash and they hunted.
      &nbsp:  Last, there was a legend that was told by the Iroquois. The legend was that a warrior named Hiawatha saw groups of members kill his family. He was suppose to kill the group but he didn’t because he wanted the fighting to stop. Hiawatha left his village and soon was called the Peacemaker. Two men persuaded the 5 nations to work together as a group to stop the fighting. They soon called themselves Iroqouis League.
         In conclusion, this selection tells how they lived in the woods.

    The Iroquis selection of “The Eastern Woodland” describes how they lived. First of all, they had a different way of living from other tribes. They live in longhouses and they fit twenty families. The longhouses were made from young trees and surrounded by bark. They lives by rivers or streams around the Great Lakes. Then,there are the food and clothing the food they grew or the clothing they made. The Iroquis grew corn,beans, squash, they also hunted for food.They wore Wampums that are strings of beads, that showed important decasions or events or deccions. Last, we have the goverment/legend.   4.      “The Iroquois” a selection from the story “The Eastern Woodlands. They built long houses, made from young trees and surrounded by bart. Each of the largest tribes fought for land.
         The second part n the story, they also grew their own food. They grew corn, beans, and squash. They planted all three crops in the same field, so they called them the Three Sisters. They hunted for their food, and wore wamping that were strings of beads that showed important decisions, events, or stories.
         The third part in the story, there was a legend about a warrior. There was a warrior named Hiawatha. He saw his family killed by members of another group. He expected to kill those who killed his family . However , the fighting stopped, he left his village and met the Iroquois named Deganawida. The persuaded the Five Nations to unite and work together as a group. The group that was formed was called the Iroquois league. It acted as a confideration. They joined the Grand Council, whichthe league setup to settle desputes among the people peacefully.
         The fourth part in the story, five of the largest groups were the Mohawk, the Oneida, the Cayuga, and the Seneca. known as the Five Nations, these peoples often battled eachother over control of hunting areas. People sometimes fought to settle arguments

Their main crops were corn,squash,and beans. They wore wampams that are strings of beads that showed important decisions on events of decision. Third, their was a Iroqouis legend. They had five tribes that fought over hunting areas one time but now cooperate together. To sum up this selection, now we don,t live like the Iroquois anymore.

To sum up, the selection tells of their daily lives.

In the selection of ”iroquois” the eastern woodlands describes how they lived.There location and structure is part of the eastern woodlands.They lived around the great lakes which is now pennsylvania,newyork,and canada.They farmed and lived in villages built banks along rivers and longhouses it can fit 20 families.The food they grew was corn,beans,and sqaush they use animal hides and there clothing were called wampum that are strings of beads cut from seashells they even sold them for goods.About the goverment and legend is a warrior named hiawatha who who he said saw his family killed by a tradtion.The iroquois leauge it acted as a confederation.A lose group of goverment woking together.Indians fought over houses.In conclusion it was about a tribe of indians that had a village that stuck together and protected eachother from enemys they lived by great lakes and gew and ate things built things and told about legends.
