EGUSD Chromebook Distribution Process

March 30, 2020

Dear Elk Grove Unified Students, Parents and Families:

As we prepare for providing instruction remotely and online, students will need a computer type device and an Internet connection for online access to the EGUSD Distance Learning platform. Devices you currently have at home that connect to the internet should be sufficient for student work. For example, your devicescan be a Windows PC, Mac, Chromebook, Linux PC, or an iPad. Starting April 1, 2020 through April 9, 2020, EGUSD staff will check-out Chromebooks to students that need a device for distance learning. We are asking families to only check out EGUSD Chromebooks if you really need one. The Chromebooks that you check out will require Internet connectivity to work.

Student Safety Contingencies until All Phases of Construction Are Complete

We are all excited to begin the new school year on our beautiful new campus. As our neighbors are aware, work on the new facility has been moving along at a furious pace after our very wet winter. The fantastic news is that we will open July 13 for Tracks B, C & D and August 10 for Track A. There will be areas of campus in various stages of completion after the start of the school year. Safety of your children is always our number one priority and that will be very much evident during the first few months of school while construction continues. Below are the areas that will not be complete, anticipated completion, and what we are doing to mitigate the circumstances.

Buildings B (Multi-Purpose Room) and C (Library/Computer Lab/Learning Center) as well as some landscaping will not be completed for occupancy by July 13. The following contingencies are in place:

o The MP Room is scheduled for completion mid-August. Until its completion, lunches will be prepared off site and served on the quad where students will eat on lunch tables, under shade structures when temperatures are 90 or less. When temperatures exceed 90 during lunchtimes, we will move lunch into classrooms.

o Our playground apparatus and blacktops for TK/K and grades 1-6 will be available for PE and recess play on the first day of school. We will have balls to play with. Painting of game surfaces on the blacktops is scheduled for the weekend of July 22 as is installation of basketball hoops and tetherball hoops.

o Our future lawn area will be cyclone fenced off from the blacktop and the rest of campus. It will continue to serve as an active construction staging area until the very last phase of construction. We do not anticipate a useable grass playing surface on campus until winter. In the meantime, RJMES and EGUSD are working with Cordova Recreation and Parks District on a use agreement for Sandpiper Park.

o The MP room will also be cyclone fenced off from the rest of campus. While all construction employees have been vetted through the appropriate safety process, school and construction activities will be entirely separate during the school day.

o The Library/Computer Lab/Learning Center building is scheduled for completion the week of July 24. Until then, technology classes will take place in the regular classrooms. Learning Center will be using the classroom of an off-track teacher until they can move in to their own classroom.

o Our $100,000 library collection will begin arriving the week the library is completed. We hope to have our library open and operational by early August.

o Interior areas of the campus with incomplete landscaping will have temporary orange safety fences or cones with caution tape around them signaling they are off limits. Teachers will address safety protocols with students during the first days of school.

o CDI, our childcare provider, is having brand new portables fabricated. Production of the portables is delayed so they are not expected on campus until late-September. In the meantime, CDI will operate out of our regular classroom F5 as well as a second rotating classroom until they are able to move in to their new home.

Your child’s safety is always our highest priority. Please do not hesitate to contact Principal Mike Gulden (mgulden@egusd.net) or Vice Principal Jana Vermette (jvermett@egusd.net) with concerns or questions.
