Homework

Ms. Ambrose’s Homework Philosophy

I believe that the most important thing you can do at home after a long day at school and work is to spend time with your child talking, reading, and enjoying family time together.  I also know that many children have activities outside of school that fill up their afternoons. I think these activities should be honored for the opportunities they give your child to grow as a whole person.  The most important “academic” activity your child can do at home is to read and be read to by an adult or older family member (yes, even in 5th grade!).  Therefore, I support at least 20 minutes of home reading each day, 7 days per week.  I will also have the children bring home a daily math page in order to review the lesson taught that day.  We will review the page the following day.

If you desire more academic homework for your child, here are some ideas:

Spelling Practice

Here is a link to a spelling program website: SpellingCity.com

Phonics and Reading Practice:

Wonders app in the EGUSD portal: Here you will find the anthology stories, leveled readers, and word work games for each week of instructions from the Wonders Reading program.

Libby: This is a free app connected to the Sacramento Public Library for e-books and audiobooks.  It’s awesome!

Math Practice:

ThinkCentral app in the EGUSD portal: This is the site for the EGUSD adopted Go Math! curriculum and includes games and interactive lessons as well as practice book pages.
