It is with great enthusiasm and excitement that I am introducing myself as the new Vice Principal at Union House Elementary School.  I am honored to accept this new role and looking forward to working with Mrs. Stoppelmann and every single one of you, community members, in our efforts to advance the achievement of all students on our campus.

I am a first generation Mexican-American, born in East Los Angeles who was classified as an English Learner and resource student in my elementary school years.  As a result, I have had to overcome many of the challenges that today’s students are facing. Reflecting on my educational journey, I am thankful for the great teachers and mentors who genuinely cared, guided, and instilled ever-growing leadership qualities in me.

Elementary school years are critical times for student’s growth and development. As a teacher and Instructional Leader over the past fifteen years, I have been focusing on helping both high and low performing students achieve advanced and proficient levels by encouraging hard work, discipline and dedication.

My intention is to keep helping each and every student develop their self-confidence and academic skills, and allow them to thrive in this country, independently from their first language, race, or family economic background.

I am confident that our school will continue to be a safe and respectable learning environment, allowing our students to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Please feel free to get in touch with me or stop in and say hello, my door is always open!

I am looking forward to a great 2019/2020 school year.

My best regards,

Benjamin Ruiz
