Hello Spartan families,


Building a solid relationship between the home and school is critical to student success.  Parent volunteers are the heartbeat to our vibrant school community. With this in mind, our students’ safety is also of the utmost importance for our school and district. Our EGUSD School Board and district leadership have recently updated administrative regulations and board policy related to volunteering on all of our EGUSD campuses which will change our practices. The administrative regulation states: “Volunteers having continuous contact with students shall also obtain clearances from the California Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of investigation. (Education Code 45106, 45125, 45347, 45349).”


This in interpreted by district leadership to mean that any “regular” volunteer requires fingerprinting even if they are under the supervision of certificated staff.  Regular is defined by a set schedule, whether weekly or daily or even monthly. It also can mean that if there is a chance that a volunteer will be alone with a child on a field trip or for an extracurricular event, even if it is a one-time field trip or opportunity, the district is requiring fingerprints.


In addition, Board Policy 1250 states that parents/guardians and interested members of the community that visit the schools to view the educational program by invitation or in coordination with a district employee for the purpose of  an open house, parent teacher conference, class party, etc. are considered visitors and must sign in and out upon entering and leaving a campus.


The district has set a deadline for compliance of January 1, 2019. So, if you are a parent volunteer in most any regular capacity, please make arrangements to be fingerprinted by our district.  The EGUSD holds fingerprinting hours at the district office located at 9510 Elk Grove-Florin Rd, Elk Grove, CA 95624 on Mondays and Wednesdays 8:30-10:30, as well as Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30-4:30.
