Friday, March 2nd is “Read Across America Day” — which also happens to be Dr. Seuss’s Birthday! This day is sponsored by the National Education Association. Why celebrate? Motivating children to read is an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers. Research has shown that children who are motivated and spend more time reading do better in school. It is a day to celebrate and foster a love for reading in people of all ages!
Sunrise will be celebrating “Read Across America Day” on Friday, March 2nd by taking part in several activities. First, we encourage students to show their love for reading by dressing up as their favorite book character. We ask that students dress appropriately by wearing attire that will not interfere with their learning or the learning of others. In addition to dressing up as their favorite book character, students will participate in buddy reading and other Dr. Seuss related reading activities!
We hope that everyone will join us in celebrating this exciting event! “We are calling for every child in every school in every community to be in the company of a book the evening of March 2, in celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday,” said Bob Chase, NEA president. So, make sure to have your favorite book on hand and join Americans in celebrating READING by reading with your family on Friday, March 2nd!
