What's New in K-2!

Dear Families:

Our last trimester is going to be very busy!  I would like to inform you of some important dates…

Wednesday, April 22 – Earth Day Celebration in our classroom.  Please contact me if you are able to help out in the afternoon class

Monday, April 27 – Track change day – all kindergartners need to arrive on the early schedule.

Friday, May 8 – Minimum Day for Sunrise Elementary School – all kindergartners arrive on the early scheudle.  Please note that I have to change the time for our Mother’s Day tea for the afternoon class.  The tea will be held at 11:00 a.m. for the afternoon class.  The morning class tea will remain the same.  A new paper will come home in tomorrow’s Wednesday folder.

Hello Parents!

Few notes for next week:

It is our last week on track.  It also happens to be Read Across America week.  Here is a play by play:

March 2^nd – Book character day. Students dress up like a character from a book. They need to BRING THE BOOK WITH THEM.

March 3^rd – Crazy sock day.

March 4^th – Thing 1 and thing 2 day – students dress up like twins.  In the past, some students have felt left out because they did not have someone to dress up with, so I will be wearing jeans and my Spartan shirt if they want to be my twin

March 5^th  – Hat day – any kind of hat.  This is also our track change day.  Both classes attend from 8:20 – 11:51.  We will sing our monthly songs and hand out awards for the character trait of goal setting.  We will also hand out awards for perfect attendance for the 2nd trimester.

There is no school for A track on Friday March 6.  We will return to school on Monday, April 6.

This Friday (Tomorrow) is Sunrise Elementary Night at The Sacramento Kings game.  Attached is a flyer for information…

We have a busy week next week.  Our reindeer day is on Thursday, December 18.  We have a lot of fun reindeer themed activities scheduled on Thursday.  Thank you to everyone who has signed up to donate items or time in the classroom.  If you would like to donate an item, please check with Mrs. Suine or Mrs. Stecca.

Friday is a track change day and a minimum day.  All kindergarten students need to arrive on the early schedule.  Friday is also pajama day.  Kids can wear pajamas to school, but please wear regular play shoes (no slippers).  We will present awards and sing some songs on Friday at 11:15 in our classroom.  Parents are invited to come watch us sing some special holiday songs we have been practicing.

Winter break will be from Monday, December 22 – Friday, January 2.  School will resume regular schedule on Monday, January 5.

We had a fantastic time today with everything apple!  The kids painted, cooked apple turnovers, and tasted lots of apple treats!  Thanks so much for your help with donations and thanks also to the helpers that made our centers run smoothly!

Your child may want to cook apple turnovers at home – they have the recipe in their backpacks tonight!

We have a lot of fun October activities planned in our classroom.  If you are able to help out during the school day, we will need extra help.  Please let me know if you are able to volunteer one day (or more) this month.

This Friday will be a track change day which means we will have awards and singing in our classroom at 11:30am.  You are invited to come and watch us sing.   Please wait outside on the playground until we open the doors for you to come in at 11:30.

Also, if you can stay for a minute or two at drop off time in the morning and help direct all of the kids with turning in materials that would be very much appreciated

This Friday we will be entering our book orders as well – they make great “treats” for Halloween for your kiddo!

I am attaching the October newsletter which will be coming home in Wednesday folders tomorrow.

Friday is our school carnival at 4:00.  It is a lot of fun, we hope to see you there.

We will have a parent meeting on Thursday, October 9 at 5:30 p.m. in our classroom.  We will be discussing the kindergarten report card and other things to look forward to in the second trimester of kindergarten.

Dear Sunrise Families:

The 2014 Unity Carnival is right around the corner and the PFO needs your help!  In order to ensure the success of this fun family event, the PFO relies on parent participation to keep things running smoothly.  Most volunteer positions only require 1 hour of your time either before, during or after the Carnival.  To date we have had 10 volunteers sign up out of a possible 148 positions.  A huge thank you to the 10 parents who have committed to helping the Carnival!  Signing up is easy and there are a wide variety of volunteer positions available.  Please sign up and donate an hour of your time to ensure the success of the 2014 Unity Carnival.  Sign up online at:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f4ea4a72ba0f85-unity.

*Attached is the newsletter for the month of September along with important dates for the school year.

*Tomorrow students will need to turn in their homework folders and Wednesday folders.  Because Monday was a holiday, we did not check out library books this week, so there are none to return.

*Next Friday, September 12^th is our first awards ceremony and singing.  Even if your child does not receive an award, we encourage you to come see them sing.  We will sing and do awards on every track change day.  Singing and awards will begin at 11:30 a.m.  Four students will be given an award each month that correlates to our month’s character trait.  ALL students will receive an award this year at some point.

1415 Important Dates

Hello Parents!

Just a friendly reminder that book orders are due by this Friday.  Scholastic book orders are great way to build your child’s home library at an affordable cost.  Our classroom also earns points for free books each time you order! Directions for placing your online order were attached to the book order flier.

A few parents have been asking if there are any items that we could use that were not on the wish list.

Wax paper, buttons, and 24 packs of Crayola crayons would wonderful.

Friday is our fun center day!  We will be painting and playing in sand/water, so please send your child to school in clothes that can handle a bit of a mess.
