Books of Hope
Location: EGUSD Schools to African Nations

Description: We’re trying to get schools in California and all over the country involved in writing and illustrating books to send to children in Africa who have been forced to serve as child soldiers in a brutal civil war. By sponsoring a school through Books of Hope and involving students in making books for their peers, you can bring pictures and ideas and learning to so many children who desperately want an education but have very little access to one. English literacy is critical for success in these countries, but the children we serve have almost no other access to books. We have book requests in every subject area – this means the project can be integrated seamlessly into any classroom (science, math, social studies, English, etc). And, in the meantime, you can help foster compassion and empathy in American students, all the while promoting writing, literacy, and learning in American classrooms, too.

Location:    EGUSD Schools to Sacramento Homeless Children

Description: Birthday parties are an important part of growing up.  They mark progress and are the hope of a new year to come.  But sadly, there are hundreds of Sacramento children living in homelessness or in emergency situations whose birthdays will pass without any celebration.  Hands on Sacramento, a local volunteer organization, brings hope to these children in a unique way: Project Birthday.  Our goal is to brighten and celebrate the lives of those in need by providing birthday parties and gifts to children in the Sacramento area.
