Often, Service-Learning Projects cost nothing.  Many community organizations are happy to have the volunteers and will provide teachers with everything they need to complete the project.

Occasionally, projects might require some funding for transportation, a substitute teacher or materials.  There are multiple options to find money for Service-Learning Projects.

Partnerships:

Due to the generous contribution of our local community partners funding is available for:

EGUSD bus transportation to the Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge to conduct a service learning project.  For an application please contact Ray Pietersen at rpieters@egusd.net

The City of Elk Grove Integrated Waste Management Division has ear marked $21,000 in the upcoming 2011-2012 school year for supplies to conduct a service learning project focused on recycling. Application click here

The district’s grant writing office has collected various funding opportunities for schools to apply for mini-grants.  Click here to review these opportunities.

Another option is “Donors Choose”.  At this not-for-profit web site, teachers submit project proposals for materials or experiences their students need to learn. Concerned individuals then donate money to the project to make it happen.  Click here to access Donors Choose.
