The Elk Grove Unified School District has an award program for service learning, thanks to a generous partnership with the Sacramento River Cats.

FREE River Cats tickets are available to students and teachers involved in service-learning and community service.

The Sacramento River Cats would like to say thank you to EGUSD  students  who have served in our community.  Students involved in service at their school may be given a FREE ticket to the game on April 17, 2012 and will be honored during a pre-game parade, an infield ceremony that includes the throwing of the first pitch by a student, and additional festivities throughout the game.  Over the past five years students from over 65 schools in Elk Grove, Galt,Sacramento,West Sacramento and Rocklin have participated in this event.

This year it is easier than ever to honor your service-learning students!  Just follow the steps below to participate:

 1.      Send an email to EGUSD service learning co-coordinator, Bill Utile, as soon as possible indicating that your class/school would like to participate. wutile@egusd.net

 2.      Print and make copies of the attached Service Learning Night with the Sacramento River Cats Flyer 2012 for each student that has participated in service this year.

3.      On or before Thursday, March 29, 2012  send Bill an email letting him know how many tickets you are ordering and the total dollar amount that he will be collecting.  Bill or Ray Pietersen will visit each participating site on Friday, March 30th, to pick up the orders and payment from your school’s administration office.  Your tickets will be delivered to your site the following week.

Common Questions:

1.      Is there a minimum hour requirement that needs to be met by the students?

No, ALL students participating in service at school or on their own are invited.

 2.      Do I have to send in a spreadsheet or a list of their names?

No, all Bill needs is an email letting him know how many total tickets for your site and the sum total of payment for River Cat tickets that will be picked up from your school’s office.

 3.      Can my students earn a certificate this year?

Yes, students in elementary school or middle school completing over 25 hours and students in high school completing over 50 hours of service are eligible for the EGUSD Superintendent’s Service Award.  Please download the Service Award Application 2012 for the students and email the names of all qualifying students to Bill Utilie  on, or before, the March 29, 2012 deadline.  A custom certificate for each student will be sent to your site the following week.

4. Who is responsible for authenticating the hours? It is up to each site how they wish to verify the student has completed the required number of hours to earn the EGUSD Superintendent’s Service Award.
