EGUSD’s First Student Board Member, Jaimee Nguyen of Monterey Trail High School, Will Serve a One-Year Term (October 2021 – June 30, 2022) As Preferential Voting Member at EGUSD Board Meetings
ELK GROVE, Calif. – September 24, 2021 – Elk Grove Unified is proud to introduce its 2021-2022 Student Board Member, Jaimee Nguyen from Monterey Trail High School. The EGUSD School Board voted and confirmed Nguyen as the District’s first Student Board Member at the September 21, 2021 Board meeting. Nguyen will serve a one-year term as preferential voting member at EGUSD Board meetings starting October 5, 2021 through June 30, 2022.
A senior at Monterey Trail High School, Nguyen is a member of the school’s local California partnership academy, the Design and Technology Academy, as well as the National Honor Society and Mathletes. With a passion for politics and helping her community, Nguyen recently completed a summer internship at the State Capitol, where she gained valuable legislative and government experience.
Nguyen says her internship influenced her decision to apply for the Student Board Member position. Nguyen won her election campaign at Monterey Trail High School, then went on to compete with candidates from other high schools across the District. Three EGUSD Board Members interviewed all candidates and selected Nguyen for the position.
“With this opportunity, I hope to represent all EGUSD students. Especially during the pandemic, many of us have definitely felt that we don’t have as much control as we’d like over what’s happening at our schools and within our District. My hope is that I can give students a voice so we can have the best school year possible,” says Nguyen.
“We are very excited to have Jaimee Nguyen join our Board of Trustees. This is yet another step forward to include student voice in the leadership of EGUSD. I appreciate the efforts of all involved to make this opportunity possible,” says EGUSD Superintendent Christopher R. Hoffman.
“Jaimee is an excellent role model for others, and she’ll be a great student voice out there for everybody and an inspiration for other students who want to be leaders. She also exemplifies not only our core values but all of those that EGUSD holds so dear,” says Monterey Trail High School Principal Lara Ricks.
