Vaccinations will begin on Tuesday, February 16
ELK GROVE, Calif . – February 12, 2021 – In coordination with the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE), our 13 local school districts, private school entities, Sacramento County Public Health (SCPH), and Healthcare partners, we will begin vaccinating educators on Tuesday, February 16. While this is a critical first step in our efforts to get schools reopened, we must keep in mind that access to vaccinations will depend on the availability of vaccine doses. We are hopeful that as allocated doses increase, our ability to vaccinate all eligible parties will move more quickly.
“Vaccinating our educators and childcare providers is an important step in the effort to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and help return our communities back to their normal lives.” Said Sacramento County Public Health Officer Dr. Olivia Kasirye “While the effort will be slow, every person that gets vaccinated is a step in the right direction.”
At this time, individuals employed in Sacramento County who meet one of the criteria below are eligible to schedule an appointment to be vaccinated:
- All staff in preschool, elementary, middle, and high schools
- All formal and informal childcare workers, including day care providers
- Any other workers involved in child and/or student care, including school bus drivers and monitors, crosswalk guards, etc.
- All staff in educational support services and administration
“Vaccinations are an important layer of safety for our educators. We are grateful to Sacramento County Public Health for collaborating on an efficient system to get vaccinations to all of our staff members,” said David W. Gordon, Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools.
Due to limited vaccine supply, colleges, universities, post-secondary education facilities, and technical and trade schools will become eligible at a future date.
Appointments will be required. SCPH will provide appointment portals directly to school districts and childcare providers to assist with appointment scheduling.
