The 2020 Golden State Seal (GSS) Merit Diploma is Awarded to Graduating Students Who Perform on a High Academic Scale Based on Grades and Various Assessments
ELK GROVE, Calif. – May 4, 2020 – Qualified to receive the Golden State Seal Merit Diploma, the Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) proudly announces that 1,885 Class of 2020 EGUSD graduates will receive the special merit on their diploma. This is a 10 percent increase of recipients compared to last year. Of the district’s 4,941 seniors, over one-third received this unique recognition.
Issued by the California Department of Education each spring, the Golden State Seal Merit Diploma was established in 1997 to provide recognition to public school graduates who have demonstrated a superior level of performance in English, mathematics, science, and U.S. History on Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments, course grades, and/or results from assessments produced by private providers.
The Golden State Seal is a unique gold-embossed insignia affixed to each qualifying student’s diploma. Students earning the Golden State Seal of Merit will receive special recognition in the form of this official insignia on their high school diplomas and the insignia on their transcripts. In addition, each student will receive a certificate of recognition personally signed by the Superintendent and a letter from the Superintendent congratulating them on their accomplishment.
