ELK GROVE, Calif. – December 20, 2019 – The Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) is honored to announce that the California Department of Education selected both Arthur C. Butler Elementary and James A. McKee Elementary as 2020 California Distinguished Schools. Proud by both schools’ top recognitions, Bindy Grewal, Assistant Superintendent of PreK-6 Education, expressed her accolade by saying, “The staff, students and families of both of these schools are honored to be recognized by the California Department of Education for their hard work and dedication to the academic success of their students. The parent communities and school faculty recognize the important role they play in their students’ lives in helping shape our future leaders and uses that as motivation to continue to provide all of their students with the best educational experience possible.”
The California Distinguished School Program recognizes elementary, middle and high schools in alternate years and allows eligible schools to apply for the California Distinguished School Award once every two years. For 2020, California is recognizing outstanding education programs and practices in elementary schools and used a multiple measures accountability system to identify eligible schools based on their performance and progress on the state indicators as specified on the California School Dashboard.
Arthur C. Butler and James A. McKee elementary schools will both hold the title for two years and will be honored on February 10, 2020 during an awards ceremony at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim.
