Dedicated Chaperons, Local Businesses and Organizations and $20,000 Support 26th Annual Child Spree
WHAT: Elk Grove Unified’s Student Support Centers and Foster Youth Services and the Elk Grove Optimist Club selected 100 students to participate in a Back-to-School shopping spree at Kohl’s store in Elk Grove on Bruceville Road. With a $150 value, students in Kindergarten through fifth grades who are in need of support look forward to going through the aisles and selecting items he or she may need to be better prepared for the upcoming school year. Superintendent Christopher R. Hoffman looks forward to attending the shopping spree again this year alongside other community leaders and volunteers where they meet and assist students during their shopping adventure. The highlight is being able to chat about the upcoming school year over a pancake breakfast with the young shoppers.

WHO: EGUSD students in Kindergarten through fifth grades who are in need of support will participate in the Back-to-School shopping spree. EGUSD Superintendent Christopher R. Hoffman will volunteer and shop with a student. Elk Grove Optimist Club, EGUSD Student Support Center staff, Kohl’s employees, and 100 volunteer chaperones will participate in the day of the event along with many more vendors and community organization volunteers including: California Highway Patrol, Chick-fil-A Elk Grove Lions Club, Elk Grove Optimist Club, Elk Grove Police Department, Great Clips, Kohls, Paula Maita & Co., Safe Kids Greater Sacramento, Soroptimist of Elk Grove, Trader Joes and UC Davis Trauma Prevention Program.
WHY: Organized by the Elk Grove Optimist Club, Child Spree 2019 at Kohl’s in Elk Grove provides 100 socio-economically disadvantaged students with a $150 shopping spree for new clothes, shoes, a back-pack filled with school supplies and more to start the 2019-2020 school year on the right foot! The Child Spree is supported and funded by donations and volunteer hours from Elk Grove businesses and many charitable organizations.
