The Distinction Honors State’s Top Career Technical Education Programs

 

ELK GROVE, Calif. – February 4, 2019 – The Elk Grove Unified School District is happy to announce that the California Department of Education selected the Bio-tech Academy at Sheldon High School as a 2019 California Partnership Academies (CPA) Distinguished Academy. Elated by the top recognition, school principal Paula Duncan expressed her joy in saying, “The California Partnership Academies Distinguished Academy recognition is a huge honor for our entire faculty and student body, and I am proud of the Bio-tech Academy students and faculty members. Since the school opened, the Bio-tech program has remained committed to implementing a high quality educational experience for its students and this award speaks to everyone’s dedication toward shaping our future generations.”

In order to be selected as a CPA Distinguished Academy, academy programs must meet the following requirements:

  • Complete compliance with California Education Code sections 54690-54699
  • Provide articulation and/or dual credit with post-secondary institutions
  • Offer Industry certifications earned by students
  • Provide high quality, effective partnerships with industry
  • Demonstrate low attrition rates, particularly among the required majority of at risk students enrolled in the CPA
  • Exhibit exemplary graduation rates
