18 Elementary Schools Encourage Students to Secure a Helmet and Ride a Bike to School

 

WHAT: National Bike to School Day is May 9, 2018. Eighteen Elk Grove Unified elementary schools will hold activities to encourage students and families to grab and secure their bike helmets and ride to school – either on a bicycle, scooter, skateboard or other non-motorized form of transportation. Students will also participate in school-wide events to encourage students to safely bike to school.

WHERE:  Ellen Feickert Elementary Bike to School Day9351 Feickert Dr, Elk Grove, CA 95624

Event Start Time: 7:30 a.m. and School Start Time: 8:00 a.m.

Visuals: Elk Grove Police Department officers will bike to school with students and hand out bike safety incentives to participating students.

WHERE:  Elliott Ranch Elementary Bike to School Day – 10000 E Taron Drive, Elk Grove, CA 95757
Event Start Time: 7:30 a.m. and School Start Time: 8:00 a.m.
Visuals: Elk Grove Police Department officers will bike to school with students and hand out bike safety incentives to participating students.

WHERE:  Florin Elementary Bike to School Day – 7300 Kara Drive, Sacramento, CA 94829
Event Times: 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.
Visuals: The School will also hold its 11th Annual Florin Bike Safety Rodeo where The Sacramento Wheelmen will provide complimentary minor bike repairs. The Sacramento Breakfast Optimist Club will provide free bicycle helmets for all participants and a
hot dog barbeque. Biking students will also have the chance to practice bicycle safety and handling at various skills stations chalked out on the school blacktop.

WHY: With the goal of celebrating the benefits of biking to school to National Bike to School Day and increasing awareness of biking to school as an alternate and healthier transportation option, these schools will hold activities for students and their families.
