Community Party and Stadium Gathering Features Jazz, Concert and Marching Band Performances in Friendly, Regional Competition

 

WHAT: At least 76 trombones will be in the Franklin region this weekend with band students from nearly 30 Northern California high schools and middle schools that will participate in this year’s sixth annual Invitational Band Review. Organized by the Northern California Band Association (NCBA), the day-long invitational will once again be hosted by Franklin High School and will include jazz, concert and parade field show competitions. The public is invited to participate in the audience during the Franklin community invitational and the parade. There will be a $10 entry fee into the Cosumnes Oaks High School stadium.

WHEN:

  • Saturday, October 14, 2017, 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.  

WHERE:

  • Franklin High School, 6400 Whitelock Pkwy, Elk Grove, CA 95757
    9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.: Visiting school bands will compete in the free jazz concert and field show events.
  • 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.: The school bands will also participate in a community parade, which begins on Franklin High Road near Toby Johnson Middle School.
  • Cosumnes Oaks/Franklin Community Stadium at Cosumnes Oaks High School, 8350 Lotz Pkwy, Elk Grove, CA 95757
    Spectators can also enjoy a Field Show Performance that will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. There is a $10 entry fee for the evening event.

WHO: Seven EGUSD schools will participate in this year’s Invitational Band Review: Elk Grove High School, Florin High School, Laguna Creek High School, Monterey Trail High School, Pleasant Grove High School, T.R. Smedberg Middle School and Toby Johnson Middle School. As Per NCBA rules, the host school – Franklin High School – may not compete during the festival but will lead the parade with its competition marching band this year. Accompanying the Franklin Band will be Grand Marshalls, Scott and Jenny Green. Visiting schools will compete in jazz, concert and parade events at Franklin High School during the day and perform at the field show at the Cosumnes Oaks/Franklin Community Stadium in the evening.

WHY:The invitational Band Review provides performance opportunities to local and regional bands. During this competition the adjudication provides feedback to the teams that may be used for educational purposes meant to help improve the quality of each band’s performance.
