WHAT: The Elk Grove Optimist Club selected 100 students through Elk Grove Unified’s Student Support Centers and Foster Youth Services to be awarded with a $150 value Back-to-School shopping spree at Kohl’s store in Elk Grove on Bruceville Road. Students in Kindergarten through fifth grades who are in need of support look forward to going through the aisles with their shopper chaperone. This year, Associate Superintendent of Elementary Education, Donna Cherry, will explore the event and have fascinating conversations with young scholars, especially over pancakes.
Now in its 24th year, Elk Grove Optimist’s Child Spree is made possible by the monetary and volunteer support from 20 community partners and 100 volunteer chaperones. This year, the Elk Grove Optimist Club secured funding and in-kind services totaling $20,000. Because of the generous support from Kohl’s and other community partners, students will receive new clothes, shoes, a haircut, an eye exam, a backpack filled with school supplies and more! Students shop with a volunteer chaperone and enjoy a pancake breakfast and fun activities when their shopping is complete.
