The Golden Coin

Posted in Uncategorized on May 23, 2012 by nikhil

After reading page 609, what do you think the author’s purpose was for writing this selection?

The Author’s Purpose is Juan being a theif and finds a gold coin in the dirt.

Readers make inferences by using information from the text, along with personal experience or knowledge, to understand the total picture about a character or event.  What inferences can you make from the fact that Juan still tries to catch up with Dona Josefa? (p. 617)

Because he wanted the gold coin.

What inferences can you make about Juan as he travels to find Dona Josefa? (p. 617)

From what the woman says on page 618, what inference can you make about Dona Josefa?
On page 618, Juan found it difficult to leave Don Teodosio’s house.  What inference can be made about this?
On page 620, Dona Josefa tells Juan that no one would take her gold coin.  What inference can be made about why no one wanted the gold coin?
On page 621, Juan gives the gold coin to the little girl.  What inference can be made about his actions?
What value does Juan place on money at the beginning of the story?
What value do other characters in the story, including Dona Josefa and the people of the countryside, place on money?  How do you know?
What lesson does the author teach us about the value of a gold coin?

CST

Posted in Uncategorized on May 21, 2012 by nikhil

I thought the CST for this year was kind of hard but not THAT hard. I think that I did great on the CST. I tried my very best on it and put a lot of effort into it. Hopefully I get a good score. In my opinion I think that I got a high score. I’ll just have to see when the scores come. :) What if I got a bad score? I wonder what will happen…..

Dogs vs. Cats

Posted in Uncategorized on May 15, 2012 by nikhil

In the battle between dogs and cats, I pick dog instead of cats. People want pets but they don’t know what to get. Dogs and Cats are both popular pets but people don’t know what to pick. People ask their friends what to get and one says dog and one says cat but it’s up to you to pick which one you want.

Dogs help humans. They help people herd cows, sense cancer, and detect termites. Dogs guide. Dogs guide the blind people. Dogs know a lot of words.  Dogs know 165 words and cats know about 35 words. Dogs are the best.

Cats hide everywhere in the house and outside. Cats need a lot of stuff. For example: they need a litter box, toys, food, and a place to stay. All those stuff costs a lot of money plus the cat is costs money too. You can get awesome dogs for free or just like 30 dollars. Dogs just need food and water, a place to stay, and that’s pretty much it. Cats are lazy and boring. Cats sleep 80% of the day. They just sleep, eat, and sleep again. THEY ARE NOT FUN AT ALL! Cats are very scary. They look creepy too. People say if you see a black cats walk by you, you get bad luck. Cats kill rats and birds, but I don’t care if they kill the rats because that’s good.

I pick dogs instead cats.  Dogs help humans. They help people herd cows, sense cancer, and detect termites. Dogs guide. Dogs guide the blind people. Dogs know a lot of words.  Dogs know 165 words and cats know about 35 words. Cats are devastating pets and they scratch people a lot. All in all, I pick dogs instead of cats and Dogs will be the best pets ever in the whole entire world.

What I did for Mother’s Day?

Posted in Uncategorized on May 14, 2012 by nikhil

Yesterday at Mother’s Day, I did basically nothing. It was just a normal day like always. I just helped my mom take out the trash and that’s it. My dad cut the grass for her and bought her flowers.

Mr. Penermon’s Letter

Posted in Uncategorized on May 8, 2012 by nikhil

I think that his letter is awesome. That made me encourage myself on doing the absolute best on the CST. I’m going to try to get every single problem correct. I’m going to try my best for my parents, teachers, and the David Reese’s principles and the James Rutter’s principles.

Why do you have to do good on the CST?

Posted in Uncategorized on May 7, 2012 by nikhil

You have to do good on the CST because that test determines your future. You always want to do good on the test. People always guess on the CST because the time is about to run out or the test is too long. NEVER GUESS! You want eliminate the answers that you think are wrong. If you do that I can guarantee you will get pro. or adv. on the CST. You have to focus on the CST don’t get distracted by other things. For 6th grade, the CST is the most important thing ever! It determines what classes we take in Middle School. You have to do awesome in the CST in 6th grade. If you do bad, in Middle School you will get 2 classes of math or 2 classes of ELA. Each class is about one hour. You don’t want that. All in all, you have to do well on the CST. DON’T GOOF OFF!

King Midas

Posted in Uncategorized on May 2, 2012 by nikhil

King Midas was the founder of gold. The queen had died a long time ago. Midas couldn’t bear to touch anything that wasn’t gold. One day, a shadow gazed upon them and a stranger appeared. All the doors were locked and shut, so they didn’t know how the stranger came into the house. They thought he was god. The stranger was here to make a wish come true for Midas. Midas asked the stranger, “I want to have the golden touch. I want everything I touch to be gold.” The stranger said ok. He said tomorrow morning you will have the golden touch. When Midas looked where the stranger was he disappeared. The next morning he touched a chair and it didn’t become gold. Midas became sadder and sadder. Then when the sun beam struck his room the chair had become gold. Midas became happy and said I have the golden touch. He got out of bed and got his handkerchief out of his pocket but it became gold. His daughter made that for her. Then he picked up his glasses and that became gold too. He could no longer see through them and he became worried that maybe this wish wasn’t good. But he said no matter I’m getting old anyways. Then he went downstairs and into the garden. He turned everything into gold. Marygold went into the garden to get a rose for Midas but they were all gold. Then she started to cry. Midas heard her and called her. Marygold came and Midas said whats wrong. She said all the flowers have became to gold. Midas was feeling terrible. Midas couldn’t eat nothing. Everything he touched and it becomes gold. Marygold hugged Midas’s leg and……

Nothing Has Been Happening Since I Been Off….

Posted in Uncategorized on May 1, 2012 by nikhil

Nothing really happened since I went off. All I did is just play Modern Warfare 3 and some racing games. I was just sitting at home alone. My parents were at work and my brother was at school. All in all, it was fun and boring, but then I thought,”Look at the bright side, at least we don’t have to go to school for like 4 weeks.” After I thought that, I was happy. But now, I’m at boring school again. I have to wait 2 more months til we go off again, and this time it won’t be boring. I’m going to Fiji for vacation and my uncles wedding. I’m looking forward to going there. I can’t wait!
