Pennies for Patients
Jan 18th
Today our class attended an assembly put on by Tony
from the Sacramento Rivercats baseball team. He stressed the importance of attitude, attendance, and academics in our school careers. He also introduced our newest project, which is Pennies for Patients. Students are encouraged to bring in loose change (pennies and any other coins or dollars!) to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma society.
Glogster
Jan 11th
Another tool that I’d like our class to try out is Glogster. One of our reading groups is going to give it a try to create a classroom news Glog. They will become our experts, and will share Glogster with the rest of us at a later date. Anyone can try it by following the link! If you really like it, I will create a classroom account for you.
Khan Academy
Jan 9th
Want to review something we learned in class? Don’t understand your homework? Homework too easy so you need a challenge? Go check out Khan Academy. You can see videos or take practice quizzes on all kinds of topics. I’m adding it to my homework help page too. If you login with a Google account (check with mom or dad first), then you can add me as your coach (mrsmccartney98@gmail.com) and I can track your progress.
Let the Plant Experiment Begin!
Jan 6th
We started talking about the science fair today. Although students are not required to enter th science fair, I’d really like to see many of our classmates choose to take on this project outside of class! They can work with a friend or on their own. I recommend http://www.sciencebuddies.org as a very helpful science fair website. We will be doing a class science project, mainly to get students using the scientific method. So, today we began our great plant experiment. Our question is, “What do plants need to live?” Our hypothesis is that plants need food and water to live, as that is what past research and knowledge has told us.
Here are our test subjects before we begin….
Food Processing Center
Jan 5th
Today we visited the EGUSD Food Processing Center. We learned about http://www.choosemyplate.gov, and created our own balanced meals out of food pictures.
We even toured the food processing center, where we got to stand in a *really* cold freezer (-4!)
Then we taste tested some fish sticks and breakfast quesadillas/burritos.
What a fun day of nutrition education! We continued on later in the day with some important physical education with Mr. Robinson. It was AMAZING!

We have been reading different books in our literature circles in the past two weeks. Leave a comment and tell us what book your group is reading. What is it about? Would you recommend it to other readers (especially people who are reading our blog right now)? Why or why not?
