Just in case you did not receive my email…
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I hope that this email finds all of you in good health. As you may have heard, EGUSD decided to close schools down due to COVID-19 (coronavirus) threat to the nation as well as our community. It was necessary and welcomed news. The health of everyone is of the utmost importance.
I think of my students on a daily basis and worry about their academic growth in fourth grade, which is such a crucial learning year. I miss them dearly. Finding myself lost without them. I love my job. I love teaching!!! I truly can’t wait to see my students again. If they want to email me, please tell them that they can! I will try my best to respond promptly. That goes for you as well parents. If I can answer your questions, I will. If I can’t, I will look for the answers.
So…what to do for the next 3 weeks. (March 16-April 3, 2020) The 2 weeks of Spring Break (April 6-17, 2020) I will not be counting. (Yes…that is their real break). EGUSD will keep us all updated of any future changes.
Suggestions:
1. Ready daily for at least 20 minutes
2. Complete 1 I-ready lesson in reading and math each daily. (2 lessons total)
3. Go Math: Go on ThinkCentral and do Interactive Student Edition. Review Chapter 4 Division. We will still have the test when we return. Do Interactive Student Edition for Chapter 6 Fractions. I will go on ThinkCentral and assign Chapter 6 homework pages so that students do not have to print them out and can just do their work on binder paper and enter answers and submit assignments. (I will be looking for all submissions on a daily basis).
4. Ms. Jhattu’s Google Classroom: All of my students know how to get to Google Classroom. I will put Mystery Science for students to have fun with 🙂 And anything else that I might think students can have fun with and still learn at the same time.
5. Social Studies: Have your child continue to work on their Mission Google Slideshow project. The next 3 weeks should be plenty of time to complete this project.
6. P.E.: Play outside!! Ride their bikes. Go for a run or power walk. Anything that keeps them active for at least 30 minutes daily.
I understand that some students may not have access to a computer or chromebook…and I wish dearly that I could checkout chromebooks to students…but that is not an option for me.
I strongly suggest that if you have the means to purchase a chromebook for your child. I promise you, it will be a very good investment. It is a lot cheaper than buying a computer or other expensive laptops out there. They will be able to use their chromebooks all the way through high school at the least. They will use them all the time for educational purposes for sure. This is just a suggestion. Early birthday present? 😉
I will keep in touch. I wish all of you the best of health. Try to stay home as much as possible. I know it is hard. I have a teenager…imagine trying to keep him at home!!!
You are all in my thoughts. Stay healthy! Encourage your child to get in the habit of washing their hands and the importance of it.
Sincerely,
Ms. Jhattu
