9/17

Homework: Read, Day 1 DOL/DOM (many asked if they can go ahead. I said sure, but not to do the assessment), Spelling wrong words x 3 (leave correct ones blank), multiplication 2/12 (this is their choice to do! Some chose to take one, others didn’t. If they did they can do one side or both. I told them not to spend more than 5 minutes a side. A few asked to take longer, but I told them that is their choice.)

Math Fluency

Next week I’ll start letting student decide between addition practice or multiplication practice in the morning (in November all will do multiplication.) If it is taking your student longer than 5 minutes a side, draw a line under where they stop at 5 minutes and have them flip it over. Please do that on both side. I would love them to try more multiplication fluency, but not for longer than 10-15 minutes.

Sept 12

HW: Math 3.7 #17-26 (They are very quick. Some kids asked to do all, I said that they can, but it’s not required.) Green Addition. 3rd Grade Angels packets Ch. 1-3. (They’ve been working on these for 2 days. If they didn’t finish in class I said it needs to become homework. Do NOT let them spend more than an hour on homework to finish though. If they spend an hour and are not done, just dojo me or sign the bottom of where they let off.)

HW 9/4

Homework today is yellow addition and a worksheet to show 3×5 solved different ways. (Two ways with numbers like 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 or 5 + 5 + 5 or skip counting 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 or by fives 5, 10, 15 or some other way involving numbers. Then a show section where they use drawings like 3 groups of 5 or 5 groups of 3 or an array. Finally they tell a story (word problem)  that shows they understand what 3 x 5 actually means.)

Happy Weekend!

Hope you have a great 3 day weekend!  We did reading tests online today.  Your kids can show you their scores in Wonder if you would like to see them. Pink means mistake and green means correct if you choose to look into each test.  The ones I would like to call special attention to are selection comprehension, listening, and grammar. Selection comprehension and listening both have a COMPLETE SENTENCE component.  Students were told before each test that they need to type complete sentences.  Then we discussed what they need for a complete sentence and they repeated back to me: capital, period, use part of the question to have a complete thought.  Many students weren´t using many of those features.  You will see that score not in the normal score box saying 1/1, but under it in the comments box you will see #/3 and a description of what may have been missing.  The reason grammar may be interesting is I am using new computer testing techniques in preparation for our end of the year test. There may be questions that have to click on multiple words in a sentence.  Since this was their first time, many struggled.  It may be because of the way it was asked or lack of understanding of common and proper nouns.  We will be reviewing next week and they will have a chance to test on it again, but it may help to go over it one-on-one with your student.  Sorry for the long message!  Enjoy your weekends.
