Homework
Reading Journal: Students should be reading for 30 minutes every night and then writing in their reading journal. Their entries should be one on of these six topics: comparing and contrasting two characters, making a personal connection to the story, a summary of what they have read, drawing a cartoon about what they have read, making up a five question test with complete sentences as answers, or asking five thoughtful questions they still have after reading. They may only choose each of these options once per week.
Math: Students have two math assignments every night. The first is a page of simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems. The other assignment is the more difficult one – usually a page pulled from the purple math workbook (it’s a brownish color that is titled with an H followed by the chapter and lesson we are working on) or printed from the computer (the chapter and lesson from which the assignment was pulled is printed at the top of the page). On these pages they must show their work. If they are having trouble they should look at the examples in their notes that match the chapter and lesson at the top of the page (or you can check out my Helping at Home page on this blog).
Spelling: Students have one spelling assignment every night. The only exception is if they got 100% on the pre-test on Wednesday, they will not have spelling homework Wednesday or Thursday night. If you want to double check, they are always given this test on Wednesday to show you. The homework usually follows this schedule: Mon – write the words 5 times each, Tues – students write the words in spelling steps, Wed – write the words they missed on the test 10 times each, Thurs – a page from our spelling work book with the title SVS and then a number. All spelling must be done in CURSIVE.

Daniel,
I am sorry, but I do not have the spelling words here at home. However, from now on I will try to remember to post those every week so you can look here if you need to find them. Good idea!
