Part 1 – No Talking

           Hi! For this book club group we will be reading No Talking by Andrew Clements. Clements has been writing over 50 books including multimillion copy bestsellers and a handfull of Newberry Honor Awards. He taught in public schools before beginning his career as an author. Clements, his wife, and 4 children now live in Massachusetts. Now, to the book. Please read pages 1-20 before _____________ and look at the cover of your book. Before reading, what do you think this book is about?

Part 2 – No Talking

       Hello again! You have finished part 1 of our little book. In this, Dave has read about Gandhi and decides to keep quiet the whole day! But his goal sort of  backfires on him and he blurts out an insult to Lynsey. How long could you go trying to keep quiet all day? Would you have a chance? Why?

Part 3 – No Talking

             Welcome back, book club! As you have read, Lynsey was extremely insulted that Dave belives that boys are more quiet than girls so they set their contest and start spreading the word. Except…  every one thinks that the contest is dumb and a waste of time, but they reluctantly agree any way. How would you react to the contest? Read from pages 41-63. Part 4 – No Talking

          Alright book club! As you have read, Mrs. Hiatt is blown away by the “strange” behavior of the 5th graders. All of them are doing pretty good trying to keep their mouth shut. But recess is hard for them all and plenty of word-goofs occur. Mrs. Marlow gets suspicious and confiscates an important note about the contest. Luckily, she kept it to herself. Which team do you want to win? Which team do you think will win? Why? Please read pages 64-101 by_____________ and respond.

          Welcome back, book club! Part 4 was all about how the kids got through their classes and at home. Ms. Akers tries to be flexible with them as Mr. Burton is bursting with ideas to test the silence in the room. Dave and Lynsey have a secret contest by themselfs and at home after school,the kids have close calls and some even have to pay very dearly while trying to keep quiet. Now, before you read pages 102-146(the finishing pages of the book!), what do you think you would do at home with only a 3 word limit? Why? Please read it by ______________.

Hey book club!

         Can you believe we finished the book?! Part 5 was all about apologies accepted and promises grant. Mrs. Hiatt even starts to take part in the contest! But it all ends when Lynsey helped the boys by saying illegal words to make a tie. Why do you think Lynsey helped the boys? Do you think that Dave and Lynsey could actually get along? Explain.
